Meeting on 11th. Oct. ‘Loss and Discovery’
This theme prompted quite a lot of searching and head-scratching as poems did not always spring readily to mind. The poems chosen often turned out to have elements both of loss and discovery. Thomas Hardy’s ‘The Voice’, Wordsworth’s ‘Daffodils’ and Tennyson’s ‘In Memoriam’ were among the old favourites.
One member read two poems by Gillian Clarke – ‘Scything’ and ‘Miracle On St David’s Day.’ Among others, there were poems by Elaine Feinstein, Sharon Olds, Roger McGough, Peter Phillips and Billy Collins.
