Meeting of Sept. 24th 2019

Meeting of Sept. 24th.

Twelve members attended the meeting with the addition of two guests who we hope will become members. We were reading poems by two Irish poets – Paul Muldoon and Matthew Sweeney, who sadly died last year from motor neurone disease. Paul Muldoon comes from County Armagh, Northern Ireland and now lives in the United States. Matthew Sweeney was born in County Donegal and lived in London, Berlin and Timisoara for different parts of his life. When Matthew died he was living in Cork.

Ann Barlow and later Ruth Smith gave further details of both poets and, as it turned out ,the number of poems read were pretty much evenly divided between the two poets so we had a good flavour of each. People plainly enjoyed the work of both poets and will very likely come return to them for a pleasurable read..
